The "vintage" period of Chinese watchmaking began in 1955 with the construction of China's first watch, the [[WuXing]], and had its "hey day" in the 1960s and 1970s.  The transition between the vintage and modern periods did not happen quickly at a particular date, but was a gradual process driven by mainly by the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quartz_crisis quartz revolution] and [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_economic_reform Chinese economic reforms].  The gradual ending of the vintage period can be loosely equated to the decline in prevalence of the [[Chinese Standard Movement]] or the "Tongji".
